3 Benefits of Mattress Cleaning

Our mattress is nicely covered and it looks spotless clean, hence we are often misled to think that our mattress is generally clean and will not require any cleaning. While our mattress may look plushy and cosy, covered with a clean set of bed sheets that is changed regularly, that is NOT sufficient to keep our mattress clean and hygienic for sleeping.

Despite your regular bedsheet changing practice and covering the mattress with anti dust mite cover, you will be surprised when you discover the volume of dirt particles, dust, dead skin flakes, dried fluid residue and not to mention millions of dust mites and other micro organism that thrive well within the mattress. In fact, the mattress is known to contain the highest amount of dirt particles and house dust mites in a home. Not a pleasant discovery, isn’t it?

So exactly why should you keep the mattress clean?

1. Keeping the indoor air quality in the bedroom healthy

We spend an average of 8 hours a day on the bed sleeping, which equates to 1/3 of our lifetime, so it is very important to maintain good indoor air quality in the bedroom. Whenever we toss about on the bed while we are sleeping, fine dust particles in the mattress are bellowed out into the air which we then breathe in without us realizing.

Poor indoor air quality has been blamed by studies for causing many health ailments from as simple as eye and throat irritation, to as serious as respiratory diseases, causing common symptoms like sneezing, watery eyes, upper respiratory congestion, fatigue, etc.

2. Recommended allergy management prevention practice

Dust mites and their excrements are one of the most common triggers to common allergy ailments like asthma, rhinitis, eczema. As house dust mites are mainly found in the mattress, it is important to ensure dust and house dust mites are removed thoroughly from the mattress to keep their presence to the lowest. Doctors strongly recommend allergy patients to clean their mattress regularly. It is common for allergy patients to have their worse attacks at night when sleeping because their bodies are reacting to dust and house dust mites from the mattress. So, by minimizing contact to these allergens, one will have lesser allergy triggers that may cause serious health condition.

3. Good bedroom hygiene gives total peace of mind when sleeping

Sleeping on a clean and hygienic mattress gives you total peace of mind when resting at night. All the more so, after knowing that you have been sleeping on a mattress filled with kilograms of dead skin flakes and dust particles together with millions of house dust mites crawling in the mattress every night!

A good sleep quality is important to start the day right. In fact studies have shown that a good sleep is important in helping to improve our physical health and emotional wellness, that’s tantamount to our entire well-being.
